Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Buckeye Wind Energy Center, located in Ellis County, Kansas, about 200 miles northwest of Wichita, began supplying power to the grid on December 17.
The windfarm has 55 GE 1.79-100 wind turbines and has a capacity of 200 megawatts (MW). It maintains 12 full-time employees and is estimated to contribute about $3 million yearly to the local economy.
Terraform Power Incorporated (NASDAQ:TERP) (Bethesda, Maryland), owns the Buckeye project and has contracted out the daily operations and maintenance to Invenergy North America LLC (Chicago, Illinois) under a third-party, long-term service agreement.
Invenergy is the largest independent wind owner in the U.S., with about 6,989 MW of wind power assets. Earlier this year, Terraform signed a definitive agreement to purchase 930 MW of Invenergy's wind power portfolio.
