Texas Industries Gets Approval on Long Delayed $350 Million Cement Plant Modernization Project in California

Texas Industries Incorporated (NYSE:TXI ) (Dallas, Texas) has approval for a $350 million modernization project at the company's cement manufacturing plant in Oro Grande, California. The project will involve replacing an antiquated 50-year-old, 1.3-million-ton-per-year production line and seven kilns, with a new state-of-the-art 2.3-million-ton-per-year line, thus increasing production by 75%. The new line will include installing a new kiln, raw mill, finishing mills, clinker cooler, storage dome, preheater tower, and associated production equipment.

AMEC Engineering (Tucker, Georgia) will begin detailed engineering in May 2005. Zachary Construction Company (San Antonio, Texas) will perform construction services for the modernization. Texas Industries expects to begin dismantling the old line in August 2005.
