Texas Leads U.S. in Active Food & Beverage Projects

According to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Project Database, Texas leads the U.S. in both the value and number of active Food & Beverage Industry projects.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--According to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Project Database, Texas leads the U.S. in both the value and number of active Food & Beverage Industry projects. The warehousing and distribution sector leads by value, followed by the dairy sector. Industrial Info is tracking more than $7.8 billion worth of active food and beverage projects in the state.

One of the largest Food & Beverage projects in Texas is the construction of a grassroot cheese production plant in Lubbock. Construction on Leprino Foods Company's (Denver, Colorado) new facility kicked off last summer, and the first phase of the project is expected to be completed in late 2024. The 850,000-square-foot facility will be home to the latest state-of-the-art technology and environmentally friendly features, such as water capture and reuse throughout the facility, according to a company press release. The plant will produce mozzarella cheese and dairy ingredients from approximately 8 million pounds of milk per day.

But Leprino may not stop there. A Phase II expansion is in the early planning stages and could begin construction in early 2025. Subscribers to Industrial Info's GMI Food & Beverage Project Database can click here for the report on Phase I and here for Phase II.

About 120 miles north, Tyson Foods Incorporated (NYSE:TSN) (Springdale, Arkansas) is underway with an expansion of its meat-packing facility in Amarillo. Construction began last summer and is expected to be completed in early 2024, with mechanical and electrical bids expected to go out this year. The project will expand and enhance the operations floor and upgrade employee well-being areas. Subscribers can click here for more information.

Amarillo also is home to the construction of a grassroot dairy products-manufacturing plant. Cacique Incorporated (Monrovia, California) broke ground for the new facility in 2021, and upon completion, which is expected in the coming months, the plant will use locally sourced dairy to make Mexican-style cheeses and creams. According to local news media, the facility will bring 200 jobs to the area. Subscribers can click here for more information.

Expected to wrap up this summer in Baytown, Texas, on the eastern outskirts of Greater Houston, is Niagara Bottling LLC's (Ontario, California) grassroot water-bottling plant. The project entails constructing a 611,000-square-foot bottling and distribution center, including production lines and other associated equipment. The project is expected to wrap up this summer, after about two years of construction. Subscribers can click here for the full report.

Among Texas' largest refrigerated warehousing and distribution projects is Walmart Incorporated's (NYSE:WMT) (Bentonville, Arkansas) grassroot distribution center for perishable items, which is being constructed near Dallas. According to a company press release, the high-tech facility will be able to move more than twice of the volume of a traditional distribution center with improved accuracy and speed. The facility is expected to be completed in 2024. Subscribers can click here for more details.
