Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Plant officials at the 660-megawatt (MW) Medway Power Station, owned and operated by Scottish & Southern Energy (LON:SSE) (Perth, United Kingdom), have announced that the plant's two General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut) 9FA gas turbines, named CT2, will come back online by August 15. One of the CT2 units had experienced a problem in its turbine blades, and the other experienced a compressor failure.
Inspections on Medway's combustion and steam turbines are based on General Electric's recommendations and in accordance with the existing long-term service agreement. The plant, located on the Isle of Grain in southeastern England's Kent County, went into operation in 1995 utilizing natural gas.
Scottish & Southern is the second-largest generation business entity in the U.K. with an ownership interest in more than 100 thermal and renewable power stations that total more than 10,000 MW. The company's principal wholly owned gas-fired power stations are Fife, Keadby, Medway and Peterhead.
