Two Thermal Power Units Begin Operation in Southwestern China

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Guizhou Dafang Power Generation Company Limited (Guizhou, China) put Unit 4 of Phase I of its power plant into commercial operation on November 17, 2007, in Dafang County in southwestern China's Guizhou Province, marking the completion of the phase.

Phase I includes four 300-megawatt (MW) coal-fired units with a flue gas desulfurization device. The National Development and Reform Commission approved the project on July 12, 2005. Units 1 and 2 have been in operation since July 2006 and December 2006, respectively, and Unit 3 went into operation in early 2007. Following the phase's completion, the total installed capacity under the Guizhou grid surpassed 20 million kilowatts, an important milestone in the electric power development of the province.

On November 15, 2007, Unit 3 of Guodian Anshun Power Generation Company Limited (Guizhou, China) was put into commercial operation in Anshun City in Guizhou after a desulfurization expansion.

Because of the difference of sulfur content between designed fuel and actual fuel, the desulfurization efficiency of Anshun power plant's Phase II has been less than expected since it was put into operation in 2004. The system was stopped for expansion in September 2006 and October 2006 after careful evaluation.

The desulfurization system of Unit 3 after the expansion was put into trial operation for the first time on October 25, 2007. Operation of the device was stable, and the average desulfurization rate reached above 95%. The unit was then put into the official 168-hour trial operation on November 8, 2007. During the trial, major instruments and automation operated at 100%, and the unit's average desulfurization efficiency reached 97.34%.
