Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Millstone Nuclear Power Station, located in Waterford, Connecticut, situated three miles west-southwest of New London, Connecticut, tripped its 1,233-megawatt (MW) Unit 03 reactor offline due to a coolant seal leak. The station is owned by Dominion Nuclear Connecticut, Incorporated, a subsidiary of Virginia-based Dominion Resources, Incorporated (NYSE:D) (Richmond, Virginia).

Unit 03 was forced offline at midnight Sunday due to leakage from a reactor coolant seal pump. Officials said the unit is expected to return online before the end of the week. Currently, Unit 03 is operating in Mode 3.

Millstone Unit 03, which began operation in 1986, is the newest and largest of Millstone Station's three nuclear units, one of which is retired from service. The power station generates enough electricity from its two operational units to power about 500,000 homes. Unit 02, which has a total capacity of 877 MW, was unaffected by the trip.
