Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--From a West Coast seawater desalination plant to sandwich production line additions in South Carolina, Industrial Info is following a wide range of U.S. Food & Beverage Industry projects that are planned to kick off construction in fourth-quarter 2025.

Industrial Info is tracking 544 capital food and beverage projects in the U.S., worth $8.34 billion, that are set to kick off in the upcoming quarter. To be sure, not all the projects will kick off on time as many factors can lead to delays or revised schedules. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Food & Beverage Project Database can click here for a list of detailed project reports.

Near the top of the list in terms of project value is the Monterey Peninsula seawater desalination plant north of Marina, California. California American Water (West Sacramento, California) is working with engineering and construction company CDM Smith (Boston, Massachusetts) on the project, which would process 6.4 million gallons per day of seawater into potable water. In August, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) ruled that the Monterey Peninsula faces a water supply deficit by 2050, thus supporting the desalination project.

California American Water President Kevin Tilden said, "This acknowledgment that the peninsula has a real need for additional water supplies shows that the community deserves full implementation of the Monterey Peninsula Water Supply Project."

However, the project remains a point of contention with some local water agencies and advocates. The City of Marina argued that the CPUC's water supply predictions were outdated and would "allow construction of a desalination project that will produce thousands of acre-feet (AF) of water not needed for the region's future supply and will thereby saddle ratepayers with decades of unjustified expense and cause other Monterey communities irreversible environmental harm."

Meanwhile, on the other side of the country, construction is planned to start on a less controversial project to install two production line additions at a sandwich plant in Hodges, South Carolina. E.A. Sween Company (Eden County, Minnesota) plans to install the new lines at its 102,000-square-foot plant, which opened in early 2024 at the North Greenwood Industrial Park.

E.A. Sween produces a number of packaged sandwich brands, including Deli Express and Market Sandwich, along with Simply Delicious Bakery sweet treats and San Luis Mexican favorites. Subscribers can click here for the project report and click here for the plant profile.

By industry sector, warehouse and distribution projects lead the pack in terms of total investment value. One of those is a second-phase 1,060,200-square-foot dry goods warehouse expansion at Costco Wholesale Corporation's (Issaquah, Washington) distribution depot in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Completion of the expansion is planned for the end of 2026. Subscribers can click here for the project report and click here for the plant profile.
