Summary

Industrial Info Resources is tracking nearly $240 million worth of maintenance projects and programs set to begin in third-quarter 2026 at U.S. vehicle manufacturing and automotive parts plants.

A Busy Season

Industrial Info Resources data show U.S. automotive vehicle and parts producers are gearing for up for third-quarter maintenance projects and programs valued at just shy of $240 million. One of the leading spenders is Toyota Motor Corporation, which is planning 17 separate U.S. maintenance events during the quarter.

Toyota's Indiana Projects

Many of the 17 Toyota maintenance events in the coming quarter are related to Toyota's subsidiary companies, which manufacture everything from window regulators to brake components to automobile seats.

Four of the Toyota projects are in Indiana and come from subsidiary parts suppliers. These include:

In addition to the parts and stamping plants, Subaru, in which Toyota holds a minority stake, will be performing maintenance work at its vehicle assembly plant in Lafayette, Indiana, which can manufacture around 410,000 vehicles per year.

State Leader

While Toyota's projects help boost Indiana into the second position for both investment value and number of maintenance projects, the leading state for both categories actually is neighboring Ohio, which boasts 38 planned third-quarter automotive maintenance events totaling more than $40 million. No company emerges as a leading maintenance spender in the state, as the 38 projects come from nearly that many companies. Of note are a couple of projects each from Honda and Toyota subsidiaries that manufacture brakes, shocks and other automotive parts.

Regular Maintenance

While most of the third-quarter maintenance consists of planned semi-annual shutdowns, Kobe Aluminum Automotive Products LLC, a subsidiary of Japan's Mitsui & Company Limited, is launching a monthly program that will see various one- to two-day rotating shutdowns each month, plus a one-week preventative maintenance equipment shutdown. The program is expected to run from the summer to the end of the year.

A Deep Resource

Industrial Info Resources is tracking details on these maintenance events and another 220 third-quarter U.S. auto maintenance turnarounds and a total of 450 separate maintenance shutdowns for the remainder of the year at U.S. auto plants.

Key Takeaways
  • Industrial Info Resources is tracking more than 230 planned maintenance events set to begin during the third quarter at U.S. automotive plants.
  • Toyota, through various subsidiaries, leads other companies in spending.
  • The leading U.S. destination for third-quarter auto plant maintenance is Ohio.
