Valero Fuel Ethanol Plant Back Online in Welcome, Minnesota

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Valero Renewable Fuels (Welcome, Minnesota) a subsidiary of Valero Energy Company (NYSE:VLO) (San Antonio, Texas) has resumed ethanol production and is grinding corn at the plant in Welcome. Valero acquired the plant from VeraSun Energy Corporation (OTC:VSUNQ) (Sioux Falls, South Dakota), along with six other plants earlier this year.

The plant resumed grinding on June 30 but has yet to load any rail cars with the renewable fuel. Valero expects ethanol shipments from the plant could possibly begin later this week.

At full capacity, the plant has the capability of producing 100 million gallons per year of fuel ethanol from roughly 38 million bushels of corn. The plant, designed and built by ICM/Fagen, has been sitting idle for about a year while VeraSun went through bankruptcy proceedings.

The plant now has 60 full time positions and is running smoothly. The company is planning a grand opening event in August to get acquainted with company executives, employees and the community.

Valero's other six plants are located in Aurora, South Dakota; Fort Dodge, Albert City, Hartley, and Charles City, Iowa; Albion, Nebraska; and a yet-to-be-developed site in Reynolds, Indiana. The combined plants have the capacity of producing 640 million gallons of fuel ethanol annually.
