Researched by IIR News Intelligence (Sugar Land, Texas)--Having resumed operations in August 2025 after a nearly year-long suspension because of the oil price surge, Long Son Petrochemicals (LSP), a Vietnam subsidiary of Siam Cement Group (SCG) is once again facing an operational halt due to the continuing conflict in the Middle East.
According to Industrial Info Resources data, the plant produces ethylene, propylene, polyethylene, polypropylene, ethylene dichloride and butadiene.
Given the prolonged hostilities, SCG has implemented various trade measures including sourcing raw materials that can be shipped outside the Strait of Hormuz at significantly higher costs in order to maintain operational stability. However, raw material procurement remains unfavorable in terms of pricing and supply continuity. Consequently, SCG has decided to temporarily suspend operations at Long Son Petrochemicals, effective mid-May.
During this suspension, LSP will conduct a maintenance program and accelerate preparations for construction of two additional ethane storage tanks at the site. These activities aim to ensure equipment readiness for restart while supporting the company's long-term roadmap to enhance competitiveness.
