This is also another important milestone for the West Crude Oil Pipeline Project since the Product Oil Pipeline laid in the same ditch was put into operation in last September. China Petroleum West Pipeline Company, Limited (Xinjiang, China), a fully-owned subsidiary of China National Petroleum Corporation (Beijing, China) was established for the construction and operation of the West Pipeline Project.

West Pipeline Project is furnished with two start terminals, two end terminals and nine intermediate terminals, 50 valve stations and a total of 942,000 cubic meters of oil storage. Total investment of the West Pipeline Project is approximately $2 billion. Total length of the Product Oil Pipeline is 1,842 kilometers and the design transportation capacity is 10 million metric tons a year (operational last September), which is used for the transportation of product oils from Kelamayi, Dushanzi, Urumuqi and Yumen oil refineries.

West Pipeline Project is the first long-distant pipeline built in the mode of E+P+C (engineering, procurement and construction) general contracting in China. Construction of West Pipeline Project was officially started in March 2005. Through more than one year of hard working from tens of thousands of workers in over 60 units, the product oil pipeline laid in the small ditch was put into operation successfully in September 2006.
