Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Construction of the 222-megawatt (MW) Kingman County Windfarm project recently got under way. Located in Kingman, Kansas, the project is owned by NextEra Energy Resources, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Incorporated (NYSE:NEE) (Juno Beach, Florida). The firm awarded the general contract to Blattner Energy Incorporated (Avon, Minnesota), which will be responsible for hiring sub-contractors.
Construction began in April, and stretches across both Kingman and Pratt counties. It will utilize General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Schenectady, New York) wind turbines to generate enough energy to power over 200,000 homes. The project will bring over $400 million in investment and payments to the area.
The windfarm has a total investment value (TIV) of $635 million and is scheduled to be completed in April 2017. It will employ over 200 craft workers at the peak of construction and provide 10 permanent jobs for the area. Kansas's largest electric utility provider, Westar Energy (NYSE:WR) (Topeka, Kansas) has an agreement to purchase the power generated by the windfarm.
