Workers at Colorado Springs' Fire-Damaged Power Station to Return Second Unit Online
Workers at the Martin Drake Power Station in Colorado Springs, Colorado, expect to bring the second of three units back online

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Workers expect to bring a second unit back online in one or two weeks at Colorado Springs Utilities' 267-megawatt (MW) Martin Drake Power Station. Three units at the station were shut down following a May 5 fire.

The first of the three affected units, Unit 6, went back on line in June. Plant officials told Industrial Info they now expect to return the 132-MW Unit 7 online. The return of Unit 7 will bring the station to 80% strength.
However, Unit 5, the oldest unit, sustained the most damage during the fire. Plant officials told Industrial Info that this third unit is likely to be offline until mid-year 2015.

Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) determined the fire at the coal-fired station was accidental, the result of free-flowing lubricating oil coming in contact with high-temperature steam pipes.
