Minnesota Photovoltaic Plant to Be Up and Running by End of Year

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--D. E. Shaw group's (New York, New York) 100-megawatt (MW) North Star Solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant, located in Chisago County, Minnesota, is on schedule to be online by the end of the year. Swinerton Renewable Energy (San Diego, California) is the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the project.

The project was originally owned by Community Energy Solar LLC (Radnor, Pennsylvania) but was acquired by D.E Shaw group earlier this year. It features linear tracking technology to maximize energy production, particularly during summer afternoons when electricity demand is highest. The project is located on over 800 acres of agricultural land and will result in approximately 300 construction jobs and up to 12 full-time jobs associated with maintenance and management of the farm.

North Star Solar had a total investment value of $200 million. Upon completion, the project will be the largest solar energy facility in the Midwest and among the largest in the world, producing enough energy to power approximately 20,000 homes.
