Minnesota Windfarm Begins Operations

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 400-megawatt (MW) Odell Windfarm, which is located in Cottonwood, Jackson, Martin, and Watonwan counties in Minnesota, began commercial operations this month, following its completion by Algonquin Power & Utilities Corporation (TSX:AQN) (Oakville, Ontario).

The new 400-MW windfarm is utilizing 100 Vestas V110 wind turbines, and will sell the energy produced under a 20-year power purchase agreement. The energy generated from this new windfarm will be enough to power over 80,000 homes each year. The windfarm will also contribute economic benefits to the surrounding community in the form of permanent jobs, local spending, and annual community investment.

Construction of the windfarm was completed by Wanzek Construction (West Fargo, North Dakota), and the project qualifies for the U.S. renewable energy production tax credit. Algonquin Power & Utilities is the owner and operator of the windfarm. The project has a total investment value of $350 million. Construction started in April 2015, and the project achieved commercial operations earlier this month.
