Enersur to Invest $300 Million to Convert and Expand Peruvian Power Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The GDF Suez (EPA:GSZ) (Paris, France) subsidiary Enersur (Lima, Peru) plans to invest $300 million to expand and convert Chilca Uno Thermoelectric Power Station to combined-cycle mode.

The facility, located in the city of Chilca, in the south of Lima, has an installed capacity of 542 megawatts (MW) with two simple-cycle turbines Siemens (NYSE:SI) combustion turbines: a 174-megawatt (MW) SGT6-4000F V84.3A and a 194-MW SGT6-5000F W501FD5. At the moment, the project is in the preliminary engineering phase and will consist of the addition of three heat-recovery steam generators to the existing turbines and the installation of a 300-MW steam turbine to increase the capacity to 842 MW.

Posco Engineering & Construction (Pohang, South Korea) has been awarded the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the project, which is expected to be completed by the second half of 2013. The tenders for the equipment, consumables and subcontractors will be launched in July 2010, and construction will start in early 2011.

Enersur is the second-largest private power-generation company in Peru. Enersur owns and operates four power plants, each with a different generation source.
