Constellation Energy Begins Construction of $126 Million Windfarm in Maryland

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Constellation Energy Group Incorporated (NYSE:CEG) (Baltimore, Maryland) has began construction of the estimated $126 million 70-megawatt (MW) Criterion Windfarm Project near Oakland, Garrett County, Maryland.

Construction on the project began last month and is scheduled for full commercial operation by the end of 2010. The project will consist of constructing 28 Clipper Liberty C93 model wind turbines just outside of the town of Oakland. The turbines each have capacities of 2.5-MW, and upon completion, the new facility will generate a total 70 MW, providing enough clean renewable energy to power an equivalent of 23,000 homes in Garrett County. The power will be sold to Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (Glen Allen, Virginia) under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

Aristeo Construction (Livonia, Michigan) will provide the turnkey services for the project throughout the duration of construction and commissioning.
