According to plant officials, the project´s total investment cost is estimated to be $3 billion. The project involves the addition of a second production line with a capacity of 1.5 millon tons per year of bleached pulp, which will expand the total production capacity to 2.8 millon tons per year. Equipment installation is expected to kick off at the beginning of 2013, and it is scheduled to be operational by the middle of 2014. This new production line will double the total production capacity in Tres Lagoas and will position Fibria to be one of the biggest pulp producers in the country.
Tres Lagoas Pulp Mill is located in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, and it started operations in 2009. Its current production capacity is 1.3 million tons per year. The plant generates all the energy it consumes using biomass from eucalyptus wood and biomass liquid (black liquor) resulting from the production process. About 2,000 employees are working at the facility.
Fibria is located in Sao Paulo and is one of the largest bleached eucalyptus pulp producers in Brazil. The company was created as a joint venture between Aracruz Celulose and Votorantim Celulose y Papel, and it has a total production capacity exceeding 6 million tons of pulp and paper that is produced in seven factories in five Brazilian states. The mills produce exclusively from renewable plantations and generate energy for internal consumption.
Pöyry Tecnologia Ltda, a global consulting and engineering company that has about 7,000 experts and local office networks in about 50 countries, will be in charge of the pre- and detailed engineering and site preparation for mill infrastructure.
