Researched by Industrial Info Research Latin America (Córdoba, Argentina)--Guatemala's Ministry of Energy and Mines granted Anfield Nickel Corporation (TSX:ANF) (Vancouver, British Columbia) the first of the three operating licenses submitted for Anfield's fully owned Mayaniquel project, located in El Estor, 250 kilometers from Guatemala's capital. The project is operated by Anfield's subsidiary Mayaniquel S.A.
The exploitation license allows Anfield Nickel Corporation to mine the Sechol area for 25 years. The license includes the option for the company to extend the license for a second 25-year period.
According to the pre-feasibility study completed in October 2013, Mayaniquel comprises a conventional open pit operation, with a mining rate of approximately 9,000 tons per day and estimated capital expenditures of $946 million. The study includes the installation of two 80-MW rotary kiln/electric arc furnaces: the first one features a production capacity of 36,500 tons per year of ferronickel, and the second one, with an estimated investment of $533 million, would be installed after three-year operation, increasing capacity to 42,800 tons per year.
Anfield is a company focused on the exploration and development of nickel laterite resources. The company acquired the project in May 2009 from BHP Billiton plc (NYSE:BHP) through the purchase of Mayaniquel S.A.
