Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Cordoba, Argentina)--HydroChile S.A. (Santiago, Chile) recently began the final commissioning of its 40-megawatt (MW) San Andres project. Located in the San Fernando region of Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins, the hydropower plant will have two 20-MW, vertical Pelton hydro-turbine generator sets from Dongfang Electric Corporation Limited (Sichuan, China). It will supply the renewable energy to the local grid.
Between next December and January, the complex will undergo final commissioning. It is expected to be fully operational by February 2014.
The construction of the plant began in early 2010 and required a total investment of $135 million. Dongfang Electric Corporation Limited was the provider of the turbo generator sets and Icafal Inversiones S.A. (Santiago, Chile) performed the engineering and construction for the project.
HydroChile S.A. performs hydroelectric projects in Chile. Also in the Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins region, it is performing site preparation for the planned construction of its 60-MW El Paso hydroelectric project, which will have three vertical Pelton hydro turbine generator sets with capacities of 20 MW each. The completion of this second hydro power plant is expected in the first quarter of 2015.
