Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Energy services contractor Kahuna Ventures LLC (Westminster, Colorado) has been around for less than two decades and only employs 140 people, according to its website. Yet it has a solid presence in the development of natural gas-processing plants across the U.S., including some of the top projects in Texas and Oklahoma, two of the most influential states in the industry. Industrial Info is tracking nearly $1.5 billion in active projects involving Kahuna, including $690 million worth nearing or under construction.

Kahuna's largest project under construction is for EagleClaw Midstream Services, which was acquired last year by The Blackstone Group (NYSE:BX): the $150 million second train at a natural gas-processing plant in Pecos, Texas, which will add 200 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) to the plant's capacity for a total 260 MMSCFD. The project, which kicked off in September is expected to finish construction in the coming month. Pecos is located atop the Permian Basin's Central Basin Platform, which separates the Delaware and Midland basins and has some of the shallowest areas in the Permian.

EagleClaw also is considering a $150 million third train and $150 million fourth train, each of which would add the same amount for a total 660 MMSCFD, to be completed by mid-2020. Kahuna is performing construction management services for all three, although the third and fourth trains remain in their market analysis stages. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on Train II, Train III and Train IV.

Another project under construction that is expected to wrap up in the coming month is the $100 million second train at a natural gas-processing plant in Carmen, Oklahoma, which is owned by Tall Oak Midstream, a subsidiary of EnLink Midstream Partners LP (NYSE:ENLK) (Dallas, Texas). The unit will add 200 MMSCFD to the plant's capacity for a total 300 MMSCFD. Tall Oak is weighing a $100 million third train that increase capacity to 500 MMSCFD. Kahuna is performing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services.

Tall Oak picked up the Carmen plant in its mid-2016 acquisition of Caballo Energy's Eagle Chief System. The plant sits atop Oklahoma's Northwest STACK play, which has become an attractive option for onshore shale developers due to its high initial-production rates and low water production, according to McKinsey & Company (New York, New York). For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on Train II and Train III.

Kahuna is performing EPC work for another Tall Oak project: the $100 million Panther Creek Natural Gas Plant in Wetumka, Oklahoma, which will process 200 MMSCFD from the Arkoma STACK Gathering System. Tall Oak plans to transport the product via an 80-mile pipeline to an interstate pipeline, which in turn will send it to the U.S. Gulf Coast. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Earlier this month, EnLink announced its $300 million Thunderbird Natural Gas Plant in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, is "progressing well" and on track to be operational in first-quarter 2019. Kahuna is performing EPC services on the 200 MMSCFD facility. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In addition to the above-mentioned projects, Kahuna is at work on $80 million in expansion projects at natural gas compressor stations across Oklahoma, according to Industrial Info's project database.
