Africa's Fertilizer Demand Sparks $5.8 Billion of Projects
Egypt, Mozambique and Ghana are the top three African countries for fertilizer projects.
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The need for fertilizers is increasing worldwide, along with the global population. Agriculture accounts for about 16% of African GDP, but getting fertilizers to the people who need it has been a costly endeavor, and Africa's poor distribution logistics haven't helped. Fertilizer imports are expensive after transportation costs are factored in. In order to reduce fertilizer costs, more companies are building new fertilizer plants in Africa, or expanding existing ones.
Over the next few years, nitrogen-phosphorous-potassium (NPK) fertilizer production capacity is expected to increase 25% in Africa.
Industrial Info is tracking 24 grassroot, unit addition and plant expansion fertilizer projects valued at $5.87 billion in Africa that are set to be approved in 2022 and 2023.
Major companies like Yara International ASA, Ghana National Gas Company Limited, El Wady for Phosphate & Fertilizers Industries are expanding with new fertilizer-manufacturing plants or by adding capacity.
