Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). The U.S. Midwest region has exploded with industrial project development scheduled to begin construction in 2007, with Alternative Fuels, Power, Industrial Manufacturing, Oil & Gas Transmission, and Metals & Minerals Industries leading the way. Take for example the Alternative Fuels Industry, where potential ethanol and biodiesel producers have announced new projects on a daily basis. Right now, Industrial Info is tracking 102 Alternative Fuels projects in the Midwest region scheduled to begin construction in 2007. These projects have a TIV of more than $11 billion! Of course, it is unrealistic to think that all of these projects will reach the construction stage this year and many will be delayed or cancelled due to market, permitting and/or financing reasons. Industrial Info will closely monitor this industry to see who is moving forward and who doesnt reach the finish line.

And the Alternative Fuels Industry is just part of the industrial story for the Midwest region in 2007. All in all, the Midwest Region has $35 billion worth of projects scheduled to begin construction during the year, including 107 projects, each, with a TIV exceeding $100 million. The largest project is the reopening of an iron ore mine and construction of steel manufacturing complex in Minnesota.
The Power Industry, which in recent years has far outpaced all other industrial markets for project spending, not only in the Midwestern states, but also nationwide, could be usurped by the Alternative Fuels Industry as the leading spending industry in 2007.
Iowa, with 23% of Midwest region planned project spending, will see the majority of the work. Iowa has leaped ahead of Midwest region states Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota, not only in the number of industrial projects planned, where it has 131, but in the total investment value (TIV) of projects where it has more than $8 billion planned. More than 50% of that number is for Alternative Fuels projects. Another 40% is for Power Industry projects.
