Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)-Amazon's (Seattle, Washington) role as the largest e-commerce retailer is driving the company to $2 billion worth of projects under construction in the U.S. warehousing and distribution sector, accounting for one-third of the sector's total investment value of projects under construction.

The highest-valued effort ($550 million) is one of Amazon's biggest distribution projects: a five-story, 3 million-square-foot facility in Niagara Falls, New York will use robotics and is aimed at moving goods in the region via 55 loading docks. Construction is underway and the project is expected to be completed next year. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Industrial Manufacturing Project Database can click here to read more information on the project.

Considered a "first-mile" fulfilment center, the facility will receive, store and then ship millions of products for customers.

Meanwhile, three distribution centers expected to be operational by 2027 are in Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, Terrell, Texas, east of Dallas, and Little Rock, Arkansas, respectively. Subscribers can read more information on the Cottage Grove, Terrell and Little Rock projects, which feature a combined investment value of $565 million.

Amazon's distribution centers receive large product shipments from manufacturers before sorting and sending them to other distribution centers or retailers, not individual end-consumers.

The e-commerce giant's distribution network also features "last-mile" centers, smaller sites that serve as an order's final stop before delivery. Industrial Info is tracking such facilities being built in Salina, Kansas and Tyler, Texas, outside of Austin. Subscribers can read more on the Kansas and Texas projects.

In all, Industrial Info is tracking $6.6 billion worth of warehousing and distribution projects under construction in the U.S. A mix of other e-commerce and product retailers, transport/logistics companies as well as companies in the Food & Beverage Industry account for additional investment in the warehousing and distribution sector.

Among the other projects underway is construction of a warehousing and distribution center in Tupelo, Mississippi for construction-machinery manufacturer Liebherr Group (Switzerland), through its Liebherr America unit. The 1 million-square-foot facility will initially support the distribution of products from the company's earthmoving, tower cranes, concrete technology, mobile and crawler cranes, maritime cranes as well as components, according to a press release, and construction could wrap up by the end of 2026. Evans General Contractors Incorporated (Alpharetta, Georgia) is performing general contracting services. Subscribers can click here to read more project information.

DSV Air & Sea (Hedehusene, Denmark) is investing $100 million for a logistics warehouse and regional corporate headquarters in Mesa, Arizona, just east of Phoenix. The 30,000-square-foot office building and two-story warehouse will be across the street from the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. Industrial Info is tracking the project with a completion date by April of next year. Subscribers can learn more from a detailed project report.

One high-dollar beverage-related project ($338 million) is attributed to Coca-Cola Bottling Company United (Birmingham, Alabama), the second-largest privately held Coca-Cola bottler in the U.S., and the nation's third-largest Coca-Cola bottler overall. A new headquarters and warehousing complex in Birmingham will feature 300,000 square feet of warehousing space, with construction expected to wrap up in late 2027. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the project report.
