American Cast Iron Pipe Increases Capacity in Alabama and Michigan

American Cast Iron Pipe Company (Birmingham, Alabama) is wrapping up two major projects to increase pipe-making capacity

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--American Cast Iron Pipe Company (Birmingham, Alabama) is wrapping up two major projects to increase pipe-making capacity.

Just last week, American SpiralWeld Pipe Company LLC (Columbia, South Carolina), a subsidiary of American Cast Iron Pipe, began operations at a new manufacturing plant in Flint, Michigan. The $25 million brownfield plant was constructed at a former General Motors Buick plant at 1225 East Marengo. Lee Industrial Contracting (Pontiac, Michigan) was the general contractor on the project, and Goyette Mechanical (Flint, Michigan) served as another contractor.

The American SpiralWeld Flint plant will manufacture large-diameter, spiral-welded pipe for the water pipeline industry. The company won a major order to supply pipe for a water pipeline project being constructed by Karegnondi Water Authority (KWA). KWA is building a $274 million pipeline from Lake Huron to potable water treating facilities in Genesee County, to deliver 85 million gallons per day of water per day.

At the company's steel pipe mill in Birmingham, Alabama, American Cast Iron Pipe is performing mechanical completion on a $55 million expansion, which will increase processing capacity up to 700,000 tons of electric-resistance-welded pipe per year. This pipe is mainly used in the Oil & Gas Industry.

Brasfield & Gorrie LLC (Birmingham, Alabama) is general contractor on the project.
