Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Angola intends to strengthen its refining capacity to reduce its dependency on foreign imports of refined products.
The country currently has one operational refinery; the 60,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Luanda refinery.
Two planned refineries include the 100,000-BBL/d Soyo refinery and the 200,000-BBL/d Lobito refinery. Both projects are at an initial stage of planning and would help to eliminate imports of petroleum products and fulfill Angola's domestic demand.
Completion of the Lobito refinery is expected by 2028, whereas the Soyo refinery is expected to be completed by 2027.
Already under construction is a 30,000-BBL/d crude distillation unit in Angola's Cabinda Province. The unit is planned for completion in the second quarter of 2024. Also in the works is the planned second phase of the Cabinda refinery project, which includes the construction of another 30,000-BBL crude distillation unit to be completed in second-quarter 2027.
