Associated Grocers Building New $50 Million Food Distribution Center in Oklahoma

Privately held retail grocery distributor, Associated Wholesale Grocers, Incorporated (AWG) (Kansas City, Missouri), is planning to build a new $50 million food warehousing and distribution center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In order to continue servicing a growing customer base in the area and provide a larger variety of products, AWG has decided to construct a new facility that will increase storage capacity by some 30% and replace the company’s existing facility on 36th Street in Oklahoma City.

Plans are to construct an 806,000 square-foot building with 50% of area dedicated to dry storage and 50% cold storage. The center will be outfitted with hi-bay storage racking, an automated inventory control system, multiple shipping and receiving docks and a new regional corporate office at the location.

AWG selected Triad Construction Company, Incorporated (Kansas City, Missouri) as the general contractor and currently site preparation and pre-construction activities are underway at the site, which is located on South Council Road on the Southwest side of Oklahoma City.

The project is expected to take about sixteen months to complete and the building should be ready for relocation and occupancy by September of 2007.
