Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Automotive supplier ThyssenKrupp Presta Terre Haute (Terre Haute, Indiana), a subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp AG (OTC:TYEKF) (Duesseldorf, Germany), has awarded architectural and design and construction contracts to American StructurePoint Incorporated (Indianapolis, Indiana) and Hannig Construction Incorporated (Terre Haute) for a $22 million expansion of its steering system manufacturing plant in Terre Haute.

Design is under way, with construction anticipated to begin around next month, for an expansion of the existing plant that will include a 25,500-square-foot (60 feet by 425 feet) building addition on the west side of the existing plant and a 30,000-square-foot (125 feet by 240 feet) building addition on the north side. The expansion also will include the addition of three new assembly lines.

The expansion will enable the company to handle two new customers and increase manufacturing of steering systems for the automotive industry, as well as handle existing orders from original equipment manufacturers. The addition of new equipment will be installed around August or September, with overall completion expected by the end of this year. Approximately 70 jobs will be created once the expansion is completed.
