Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)--Government-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) (Chittagong, Bangladesh) is scouting for a vendor to construct a refined products terminal at Mongla Port, on the southwestern coast of Bangladesh.
BPC's plan is to build a refined products storage terminal with a capacity of 1 million metric tons by 2014, and it recently released the tender documents seeking bids for the project's construction. The last date for submission of bids is May 19, 2013.
BPC plans to invest about $19.23 million to construct the new oil terminal, which will have 14 storage tanks with an aggregate capacity of 1 million metric tons. The proposed terminal in the Bagerhat district, near the Mongla sea port terminal, will process 0.25% sulfur gasoil; 180-centistoke (cst) high-sulfur fuel oil (HSFO); superior kerosene oil (SKO); 95-research octane number (RON) gasoline; and 92-RON gasoline.
BPC contract terms require completion of the storage tanks within 18 months from signing date of the contract. BPC expects the new terminal construction will reduce the demurrage paid on delayed discharges.
Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation is a government-owned monopoly in Bangladesh, dealing in import of crude oil and refined oil; lubricants; the refining of crude oil; and distribution and marketing of fuel oils, as well as other petroleum products. It has seven subsidiaries engaged in the production, processing, refining and marketing of petroleum.
BPC imports up to 29 million barrels of petroleum products annually, including 9 million barrels of crude oil (mainly from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, India and the United Arab Emirates), to meet the country's demand.
