BHEL Bags $415 Million Generator Pack Order for Lignite Plants

Written by Richard Finlayson, Senior International Editor for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--India's Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BSE:500103) (BHEL) (New Delhi) has developed the capacity to manufacture and deliver power plant equipment for up to 20,000 megawatts (MW) annually.

The company recently secured a $415 million order to supply two 500-MW steam generator packages for two thermal power units at Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) Limited's (BSE:513683) (Chennai, India) 1,000-MW thermal power plant. It will be built in Neyveli. The generators will be the highest-rated pulverized, lignite-fired steam generators in India.

Prior to the new contract, BHEL received orders from NLC for its 1,000-MW Tuticorin, 500-MW Neyveli and 250-MW Barsingar projects, all on an international competitive bidding (ICB) basis.
