Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Houston-based Boardwalk Pipeline Partners LP (NYSE:BWP) is set to start up a natural gas pipeline and processing facility that expands the company's gathering and processing capacity for liquids-rich gas produced in the Eagle Ford Shale. The projects are part of Boardwalk's South Texas Eagle Ford Expansion, which the company announced in early 2012.

The projects revolve around the startup of the company's 150 million-cubic-foot-per day (MMcf/d) grassroot Flag City cryogenic natural gas processing facility near Edna, Texas, which is set to begin operating in the next few weeks.

Accompanying the processing plant is a 55-mile pipeline expansion to Boardwalk's existing 340-mile South Texas Gathering System, bringing the transmission of the total system to more than 300 MMcf/d. The pipeline will transport natural gas from Karnes and Dewitt counties in the Eagle Ford Shale area to the processing plant. Customers of the facility include Statoil Natural Gas LLC (NYSE:STO) and Talisman Energy USA Inc. (NYSE:TLM), which account for about 50% of the plant's operating capacity.

Boardwalk is also expanding its presence in the southeast U.S. In Mississippi, the company is nearing the completion of the expansion of a natural gas storage cavern near the town of Petal, which is part of the Hattiesburg metropolitan area. The construction of Salt Cavern No. 12 will add an additional 5 billion cubic feet of storage capacity to the 36 billion cubic feet of existing capacity.

Through subsidiary Gulf South Pipeline, Boardwalk is in the early planning stages for the construction of a compressor station and 38-mile natural gas pipeline from Hattiesburg to Mobile, Alabama. The project is tentatively planned to kick off early next year.
