Botox Maker Allergan Smooths Deal with Bridgewater for $12 Million R&D Laboratory Investment

Reported by Annette Kreuger, Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Widely known for its wrinkle-reducing Botox and breast implants, Allergan Incorporated (NYSE: AGN) (Irvine, California) brought a smile to the face of Bridgewater, New Jersey officials with its decision to locate its new lab there. Following an extensive statewide search that began last September, the company decided to invest $12 million for a 93,000 square foot facility on the Somerset Corporate Campus.

The new Allergan lab will be located within the 250,000 square foot Somerset Corporate Center II building, which is owned by SJP Properties (Parsippany, New Jersey). SJP is seeking Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for the entire building.

No small part of the allure in choosing New Jersey for expansion was the $14.9 million incentive package offered up from the Economic Development Authority under its Business Employment Incentive Program. The grant is to be paid out over a ten-year period. At full capacity, Allergan has projected that the Bridgewater site will employ up to 400 people.

In addition to its thriving medical aesthetics business, Allergan's pharmaceutical business portfolio includes eye care, neurosciences, medical dermatology, and urologic products. The multi-specialty health care company employs over 10,000 globally.
