Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Eletrobras (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), a state-owned power generator and distributor, is expected to sign an agreement on April 28 with Peru's state-owned Empresa Electricidad del Peru (Electroperu) (Lima) to build six hydropower stations. The project involves nearly 8,000 megawatts (MW) of capacity that would be built in Peru. Electricity would be exported to Brazil.
The six projects, currently undergoing feasibility studies, are: the 2,000-MW Paquitzapango, the 1,074-MW Sumabeni, the 940-MW Urubamba, the 800-MW Ciquipampa, the 750-MW Vizcatan and the 2,000-MW Inambari hydropower plants.
The Inambari plant, which will have six 234-MW Francis vertical axis turbine generators, is expected to become operational in 2016. The facility is located in Madre de Dios in southeastern Peru, about 300 kilometers away from Brazil.
