Brazil continues expanding its energy systems, which are dominated by renewable energy. Between January and November, the South American nation began commercial operations on 3,646 kilometers of new transmission lines, bringing its total to 192,648 kilometers.During the same period, about 6,564 megawatts (MW) across 113 new-generation power plants have been added to the national electric system, with solar accounting for 34.69% and wind 23.43% of the growth. Overall, Brazil's centralized installed capacity has reached 215.6 GW, by November this year, with 84.4% of the power generation coming from renewable sources.
The government expects a total of 7.199 MW of new power generation to be added by the end of this year, with another 10,223 MW added next year.
According to the National Agency of Electric Power (ANEEL), some 12.46 GW are currently in construction across Brazil. From this, about 13.6% are for wind-related projects and 36.6% for solar projects. For forecasted projects that have not begun construction, ANEEL is currently tracking 132.2 GW, of which 13.6% are wind projects and 84.5% are solar power plants.
In parallel, micro and mini distributed generation capacity reached 43.38 GW, according to the Ministry of Energy.
Novo Pac Pushing Investments in Renewables
Novo Pac, the federal government's main investment and infrastructure program, allocates 107.6 billion reais (about US$19.7 billion) between 2023 and 2026 to add 26.3 GW of new power generation capacity. Solar and wind dominate the portfolio, with 286 photovoltaic plants and 183 windfarms of the 535 modalities included in the program's pipeline.By August this year, about 90 billion reais (roughly US$16.5 billion) and 14.4 GW had already been developed, accounting for 322 concluded projects, of which 169 were solar plants and 130 wind parks.
Industrial Info is tracking 1,844 renewable power-related projects in Brazil worth US$619.7 billion.
