Brazil Sees US$5.5 Billion in Grassroot Pharmaceutical-Biotech

Industrial Info is currently monitoring 24 pharma-biotech grassroot projects in Brazil, valued at more than US$5.5 billion. The states in which these projects are being developed by investment amount are Ceara, Rio de Janeiro and Pernambuco, followed by Mina Gerais, Parana and Sao Paulo.

A segment that expects an increase activity in Brazil is the injectables sector, especially the injectable fill and finish and the injectable vaccines sub-sector. Accordingly, the Instituto de Tecnología em Inmunobiologicos Bio-Manguinhos is building a vaccine plant in Santa Cruz, Rio de Janeiro. This US$627 million investment, known as the New Final Processing Center (Novo Centro de Processamento Final) and located in the Health Biotechnology Industrial Complex (Complexo Industrial de Biotecnologia em Saude), will produce vaccines for diseases such as meningitis, hepatitis and bacterial infections and would also have the capacity to produce other types of vaccines when it kicks off production in 2024.
