Burns & McDonnell Takes Part in Nearly $8 Billion in Project Kickoffs, Completions for 2018
Industrial Info is tracking more than $13.5 billion in active projects involving Burns & McDonnell, including about $5.7 billion worth that are expected to begin construction and almost
Burns & McDonnell's leading role in T&D projects can be seen with several projects across different U.S. regions, including Northern Pass Transmission LLC's (Hartford, Connecticut) $785 million Border-to-Franklin Transmission Line in New Hampshire, which features a pair of lines running 60 miles underground; Sempra Energy's (NYSE:SRE) (San Diego, California) $180 million Sycamore-to-Penasquitos Transmission Line in California, which is expected to run 14 miles in four segments; and Northern Indiana Public Service Company's (NIPSCO) 100-mile Reynolds-to-Topeka line in Indiana, which is divided into two segments: the $135 million Reynolds-to-Burr Oak line and the $135 million Burr Oak-to-Topeka line, each of which runs 50 miles.
Each of these projects is expected to wrap up in the second quarter of the year, except for the New Hampshire line, which is expected to begin construction at that time and finish in the second quarter of 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the New Hampshire and California lines, and the Reynolds-Burr Oak and Burr Oak-Hipple lines in Indiana.
All in all, Burns & McDonnell is taking part in $6.24 billion worth of T&D projects. The company also is at work on $5.72 billion worth of power-generation projects, more than half of which are fired by natural gas. The largest that is set to begin in the near future is for NRG Energy Incorporated (NYSE:NRG) (Princeton, New Jersey), the largest independent U.S. power producer: the $320 million Canal Power Station in Sandwich, Massachusetts, which would generate 330 MW from a GE dual-fuel combustion turbine. The project is set to be complete in mid- to late 2019. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Two other projects are under construction in the disparate states of Texas and Hawaii: Denton Municipal Utilities' $265 million energy center in Denton, Texas, which is expected to generate 225 megawatts (MW) from 12 Wartsila engines, and Hawaiian Electric Company Incorporated's $167 million Schofield Generating Station in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, which will generate about 50 MW for Oahu's electric grid from a combination of biofuels and natural gas. Land for the Schofield facility is being leased to Hawaiian Electric by the U.S. Army. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the Texas and Hawaii plants.
But not all of Burns & McDonnell's projects are in the Power Industry. The company is performing engineering services for Andeavor Corporation's (NYSE:ANDV) (San Antonio, Texas) $190 million refinery in Mandan, North Dakota, which to begin construction this quarter to meet the growing demand in the resource-heavy region, as well as to meet proposed Tier 3 gasoline sulfur content requirements.
