Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Arevon Energy (Scottsdale, Arizona) has closed financing on a battery energy-storage system (BESS) project under construction in California, where Industrial Info is tracking $25 billion worth of active and planned BESS projects. Arevon accounts for 10 projects worth $2.3 billion, while about $9 billion worth of California's total BESS project pipeline is attributed to projects that have a medium-to-high (70% or more) probability of moving forward as planned.

Arevon, which was spun off from Capital Dynamics Limited (New York, New York), also is known as CD Arevon USA Incorporated.

Arevon received financing for the Condor Energy Storage Project in Grand Terrace, California, through a combination of preferred equity, tax credit transfers, and debt, the company said in a February 13 press release. The project will utilize Tesla Incorporated's (NASDAQ:TSLA) (Austin, Texas) Megapack 2 XL utility-scale BESS system to provide 200 megawatts (MW) of generation, and commercial operations are expected to begin in the second quarter. The plant will provide power to Southern California Edison Company's (Rosemead, California) grid under a 15-year agreement.

The Condor project will add generation capacity to California's grid, which as of October, featured more than 6,600 MW of battery capacity, according to the California Energy Commission (CEC).

According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration's most recent Preliminary Monthly Electric Generator Inventory (as of November), California (7,300 MW) leads all U.S. states in terms of installed battery-storage capacity, followed by Texas (3,200 MW).

Industrial Info is tracking $2.3 billion worth of active and planned BESS projects from Arevon, all of which utilize Tesla's Megapack system. This includes the 300-MW, standalone $325 million Nighthawk battery-storage facility in San Diego. The project will connect to the California grid at San Diego Gas & Electric Company's (SDGE) Sycamore Canyon Substation. SDGE is a subsidiary of Sempra Energy (NYSE:SRE) (San Diego, California). Arevon's other projects include the 200-MW, $200 million Avocet Battery Storage project in the Los Angeles area, which is expected to wrap up in September; construction of the 200-MW, free-standing $200 million Tanager Battery Storage project in San Jose is expected to kick off in April and reach completion in April 2025. Rosendin Electric (San Jose, California) is providing engineering, procurement and construction services for both projects. Subscribers can read detailed reports on the Avocet and Tanager projects.

But it's not just Arevon that is developing a BESS project pipeline in California. Industrial Info is tracking two projects from AES Corporation (NYSE:AES) (Arlington, Virginia), which includes construction of a 291-MW unit at the Raceway 2.0 Solar Plant in Lancaster, which is expected to wrap up in April 2025. Meanwhile, AES is developing a proposed, $500 million BESS addition at the Bellefield solar plant in Kern County; construction of the solar plant and the accompanying BESS both are tentatively expected to be completed in October 2026. The solar-plus-storage project is planned to be developed in several phases.

Subscribers can read detailed information on the Raceway 2.0 and Bellefield Phase 1 BESS and solar projects.
