Canada's Integrated Grain Processors Begins Construction on Ontario Fuel Ethanol Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Member owned Integrated Grain Processors Co-operative (Caledonia, Ontario), and wholly-owned subsidiary IGPC Ethanol Incorporated (Aylmer, Ontario) has closed on its financing package and has begun construction on a new fuel ethanol plant that will be located in Aylmer, Ontario. The community owned plant is comprised of 840 farmer and area residents and members pulled together $45 million in capital dollars to launch the largest start-up co-operative venture ever attempted in Canada.

Current site grading is underway, and concrete is being poured for tankage flooring. The company selected ICM Incorporated (Colwich, Kansas) as its licensed ethanol process technology provider and North American Construction Limited (Morriston, Ontario) will build the plant.

Plans call for the creation of a nameplate 150 million liter per year (39.6 million U.S. gallon) plant that will process some 15 million bushels of Ontario grown corn annually. The plant will also generate about 330 tons per day of distiller’s grains and have a 420,000-bushel corn storage capacity that translates to roughly a 10-day supply of corn.

Capital costs to build the plant are in the $100 million range, and construction is expected to take sixteen months to complete. When the plant becomes operational in November 2008, some 35 permanent jobs will be created for the rural community just north of Lake Erie.

IGCP also marks the third ethanol plant currently under construction in Ontario. Greenfield Ethanol, formally Commercial Alcohols, is building a 52 million gallon per year plant in Prescott and Kawartha Ethanol Inc is building a 20 million gallon per year plant in Havelock. Eight additional fuel ethanol plants are in the pre-construction stage in the Providence.
