Chanarambie Power Completes 206-Megawatt Windfarm Project in Minnesota

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Chanarambie Power Partners, a subsidiary of enXco Incorporated (North Palms Springs, California), began full commercial start-up of its $385 million 206-megawatt (MW) Fenton windfarm project in late December 2007 near Lake Wilson, Minnesota.

Construction of the project started in September 2006 and was completed in fall 2007. Construction consisted of building 137 GE Energy 1.5-MW wind turbines in Murray and Nobles counties at the existing Chanarambie windfarm. The power generated by Fenton will be sold to Northern States Power, a subsidiary of Xcel Energy (NYSE:XEL) (Minneapolis, Minnesota), under a 25-year power-purchase agreement. The Chanarambie facility previously produced about 85 MW, and with the new Fenton project completed, the expanded windfarm will provide a total of up to 290 MW of renewable energy for Northern States customers.

M. A. Mortenson Company, (Minneapolis), provided the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction services for the project. EnXco Service Corporation, a subsidiary of enXco, will provide the operation and maintenance services for the project.
