Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Construction has been completed on a new $12 million biological manufacturing plant for Embrex, Incorporated (Nasdaq: EMBX) (Laurinburg, North Carolina) in Maxton, North Carolina. As first reported by Industrialinfo.com in December 2002 (PEC 15001694), the new plant will manufacture the company's Inovocox(TM) in ovo coccidiosis vaccine, still pending regulatory approvals.

Embrex, which is also known as the In Ovo Company(SM), focuses on the poultry industry and its two main specialties are the ovo delivery of vaccines and hatchery automation. Inovocox is an in ovo vaccine, meaning in the egg and was formulated to combat coccidiosis, a parasitic disease of a bird's digestive system. While seldom fatal, it causes weight depression, lower feed conversion ratios, intestinal lesions and diarrhea. Current industry estimates place the worldwide market for existing products to treat coccidiosis at $350 million.

Lockwood Greene (Raleigh, North Carolina) was responsible for the design and construction of the 30,000 square foot plant. Located near the Laurinburg-Maxton Airport, the facility houses a main manufacturing unit for vaccine purification, sterile filling, shipping and receiving operations and quality control laboratories. It also includes poultry brooder houses and a building for the initial steps of the production process.
