Enaex, the largest producer of ammonium nitrate in Latin America, is preparing to begin work on its HyEx project, which involves the construction of a new green hydrogen unit and a green ammonia unit at its Mejillones plant in Chile's Antofagasta state.
The 124,000-metric-ton-per-year hydrogen unit will use renewable power provided by Engie. The ammonia unit will use green hydrogen to produce 18,000 metric tons per year of ammonia. With this project, Enaex plans to eliminate 600,000 metric tons per year of CO2 emissions. The HyEx project is expected to be operational in the second half of 2023.
