Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Beijing, China)--The environment impact assessment (EIA) report (Site Selection Stage) for the State Nuclear Power Demonstration Power Station Company Limited's (Rongcheng, Shandong) CAP1400 Demonstration Nuclear Plant, which was prepared by Shanghai Nuclear Engineering R&D Institute (Shanghai), was recently accepted by the Ministry of Environment Protection (MEP), according to an announcement from the MEP on April 15, 2013.
The Rongcheng CAP1400 Demonstration Nuclear Plant, located at the Ningjin Street Office in Shidaowan Town of Rongcheng City, in northern China's Shangdong province is one of the two AP1000-based nuclear power stations under construction in China. The power plant is jointly invested by the State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation (SNPTC) (Beijing) (51%) and China Huaneng Group Corporation (Beijing) (49%).
As one of the 16 key research and development programs listed in the National Middle and Long-Term Science & Technology Development Planning Outline (2006-2020), the plant plans to have two CAP1400 pressurized water reactors (PWR) to drive two 1,400-megawatt (MW) steam generating units, based on the third generation of AP1000 advanced PWR technology. In the future, the capacity of the plant will be expand to six units.
According to the "Overall Implementing Scheme for Large-Scale Advanced Pressurized Water Reactor Nuclear Power Station," which was approved by the State Council, the first unit of the project is scheduled to place its first bucket of concrete in April 2014 and to begin operations at the end of 2018, with a total construction period of 56 months. The commissioning date for Unit 2 will be 12 months later, with a total construction period of 50 months.
