Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Jiangsu Electric Power Construction No.3 Engineering Company (JEPC3) (Zhenjiang, Jiangsu), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), won the construction and installation contract for the conventional island and the balance of plant (BOP) for Unit 2 of State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation's (SNPTC) (Beijing) CAP1400 Demonstrative Project on May 15, 2014, according to an announcement from the CEEC on May 19.

SNPTC's CAP1400 Demonstrative Nuclear Power Project, located at Shidao Bay in Rongcheng of Weihai City, in northern China's Shandong province, is jointly invested by the SNPTC and China Huaneng Group Corporation (Beijing). The project is furnished with two CAP1400 pressurized water reactors, with a single unit capacity of 1,400 megawatts (MW), which is the largest nuclear power unit ever made by Chinese enterprise.

Prior to the awarding of the current contract, the construction and installation work for the conventional island and BOP of SNPTC's first CAP1400 Demonstrative Nuclear Power Unit (Unit 1) had been awarded to Shandong Electric Power Construction No.2 Company (SEPCO2) (Jinan, Shandong), a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China (Power China) (Beijing).

The CAP1400 Demonstrative Unit is a large-scale, advanced pressurized water reactor developed by SNPTC, based on the introduction of Westinghouse's AP1000 third generation of passive nuclear power units.

According to the schedule, construction of the unit will begin in the first half of 2015. The unit is expected to begin operations in later 2019.

JEPC3 won its first nuclear power project, Phase I of the Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant, in October 1999. After that, JEPC3 completed the construction and installation of the conventional island for Unit 1 of the Haiyang Nuclear Power Plant, one of the two AP1000-based nuclear power plants introduced to China by the SNPTC, and the construction and installation of the conventional island for Unit 3 & 4 of Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant (Phase II).
