China General Nuclear to Start Up Five Units in 2014
China General Nuclear Corporation plans to put five nuclear power units in commercial operation this year.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--China General Nuclear Corporation (CGN) (Shenzhen, Guangdong) plans to put five nuclear power units in commercial operation this year.
Unit 2 of the Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant has been connected to the grid and is expected to be put into commercial operation in the first half 2014. Hongyanhe has three units under construction. The first unit of the Hongyanhe plant was put into operation in 2013.
Unit 2 of the Ningde Nuclear Power Plant was connected to the grid in January and is expected to begin operation in April. Ningde also has three units under construction. The first unit (Unit 1) of the Ningde Nuclear Power Plant went into operation in 2013.
Unit 1 of the Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant is connected to the grid and is expected to begin commercial operation in April. Unit 2 also is expected to begin operation this year. The Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant currently has six units under construction. Unit 3 is expected to begin operations in 2015.
Commissioning of Unit 1 of the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant is expected in July. The two units under construction at the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant each have a 1.75-gigawatt capacity and are the largest nuclear power units in the world. These units are among the best of all third-generation of nuclear units in the aspect of progress, according to the CGN.
As of the end of 2013, China had a total of 17 nuclear power units, with a combined installed capacity of 14.7 GW in operation. Eight of the units are operated by CGN, accounting for 8.33 GW, which is 56% of the total power capacity. CGN also has 16 nuclear power units under construction, with a total installed capacity of 18.80 GW.
