Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Guangdong Thermal Power Construction Company Limited (GTPC) (Guangzhou, Guangdong), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), completed the box-up of the low-pressure (LP) cylinder for the steam turbine of Unit 1 at China General Nuclear Power Corporation's (CGN) (Shenzhen) Taishan Nuclear Power Plant on August 15, 2013. This is a milestone for the construction of Unit 1, according to an announcement from the CEEC on August 16.
The Taishan Nuclear Power Station, located at Chixi Town of Taishan City in southern China's Guangdong province, was built and is operated by Taishan Nuclear Power Cooperative Company Limited (Taishan, Guangdong), a joint venture of the CGN (70%) and Electricite de France S.A. (EPA:EDF) (Paris) (30%). The power station is planned to have six units built in three phases; in Phase I, two nuclear power units, each of 1,750 megawatts (MW) and based on the European Pressurized Reactor (EPR), are to be built.
The ERP-based third generation of nuclear power unit erected at the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant is reportedly the largest nuclear power unit of single capacity in the world. The four-cylinder, six-displacement condensing nuclear power steam turbine comprises one middle- and high-pressure combined cylinder and three dual-flow LP cylinders, with rated outputs of 175.478 MW and rated speeds at 1,500 rotations per minute (RPM).
GTPC won the construction contract for the conventional island early in 2008, while China Nuclear Industry Huaxing Construction Company Limited (Nanjing, Jiangsu), a subsidiary of China Nuclear Engineering Group Company (CNEC) (Beijing), is responsible for the erection of the nuclear island for the unit.
According to the latest schedule, the first unit of the project will begin commercial operations in July 2014, and the second unit will begin in June 2015.
