Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)-- Presently, ethane cracker units across the globe are mainly concentrated in the U.S., Canada, the Middle East and Western Europe. But China is making inroads in this sector.
Commissioning began in June for China's second ethane cracker, China National Petroleum Corporation's (CNPC) 800,000-metric-ton-per-year ethylene plant in Yulin, Shaanxi province. China's first ethane cracker, Singpu Chemicals Ltd's 650,000 metric-ton-per-year ethylene plant in Taizhou, Jiangsu province, started operations in August 2019. Three more units will begin commissioning before the end of 2021.
Compared with other processes, the advantages of ethane cracking to produce ethylene are the lower cost, high-purity and high-yield product, and lower pollution levels.
Industrial Info is tracking eight active ethane cracker projects in China, valued at $12.71 billion. One is located in Xinjiang Province, and seven are located it coastal provinces.
