Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The National Energy Administration (NEA) officially issued its preliminary approval with consent to kick off the pre-stage preparation works for Huadian Shaanxi Energy Company Limited's (Xian, Shaanxi) Ankang Power Plant on April 8, 2012. Huadian Shaanxi Energy has made important progress in construction of the new power source project, according to China Huadian Corporation (Beijing) announced recently.
The Huadian Ankang Power Plant, located in Ankang City, in the Shaanxi province, has a total planned capacity of 4,000 megawatts (MW). Of which, two 1,000-MW, coal-fired, ultra-supercritical water-cooling units will be built in Phase I. Based on previous agreements, the power plant will be invested jointly by Huadian Shaanxi and Shaanxi Coal & Chemical Industry Group Company Limited (Xian, Shaanxi) in a 50:50 ratio, and the electricity generated from the power plant will be fully transmitted to Chongqing grid.
As a key power source project listed both in the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15) of Shaanxi Province and Chongqing City, the project will be the second "cross-border" project of Chongqing to receive preliminary approval from the NEA, following Erlang Power Plant in Xishui, in the Guizhou province. By using the rich coal resources in its neighboring province, construction of the project will not only promote the conversion of coal resources in project location to satisfy the middle and long-term power demand in Chongqing, the economic center in southwest China, but also will improve the power source structure, as well as the grid regulation capability in Chongqing.
Chongqing City and Shaanxi province kicked off the preparation for the project early in 2007. So far, the project has completed several special reports in railway transportation, water resource evaluation, site selection, land acquisition, environmental protection and grid connection, with 66 intermediate support documents for the feasibility study of the project. In the next stage, the project owner will work closely with the governments both in Chongqing and Shaanxi to get final approval for the project as soon as possible.
