Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) has accepted the environment impact assessment (EIA) report for Wushen Qi Menggeqin Energy Development Company Limited's (Ordos, Inner Mongolia) Meilinmiao Underground Coal Mine, the ministry said on May 5.

The coal mine project is in the Hujierte Mining Zone, east of Wushen Qi of Ordos City. The site has a total coal resource reserve of 1.95 billion metric tons and an exploitable reserve of 827.6 million metric tons in nine coal seams. The thickness of exploitable coal seams varies from 12.85 meters to 22.43 meters, with an average thickness is 14.68 meters.

The project would have a production capacity of 10 million metric tons per year. The project also includes a 10 million-metric-ton-per-year coal preparation plant and a 34.9-kilometer rail line from the existing train station in the Xinjie Mining Zone.

The mine would have a planned lifespan of 70.7 years. The project is scheduled to begin operations at the end of 2015.

The coal mine includes a main shaft, an auxiliary shaft, and a ventilation shaft, with coal seams to be exploited in two levels.

Shenhua Group Baotou Mining Company Limited (Baotou, Inner Mongolia), a regional subsidiary of China Shenhua Energy Company Limited (Beijing), plans to invest about $770 million in the expansion. Construction would last 34 months.

Construction began in May 2011, but failure to complete the environmental impact statement on time caused a delay.

The environmental impact assessment was prepared by Beijing Huayu Engineering Company Limited (Beijing).
