Ethylene and propylene are primary chemical products made mainly from petroleum. DMTO technology uses coal as a substitute for petroleum to produce ethylene and propylene. In 2004 Shaanxi started to attract investment to launch Chinas first coal-to-olefin project. After two years of construction and trial operation, the test run of the projects industrial production unit succeeded in August 2006.It is the worlds only 10,000-ton methanol-to-olefin transfer unit, and it also boasts cutting-edge technology. DMTO technology provides an alternative for the development of Chinas olefin industry and saves the country important oil resources, helping to increase Chinas energy safety.
