Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Chinas electric power consumption is expected to maintain its 10% annual growth rate, with total installed capacity forecast to reach 900 million kilowatts, according to the China Electricity Council (CEC). The CEC expects Chinas electric-power supply to remain balanced for the next three years.
According to the CEC, power demand will steadily rise to meet the acceleration in industrialization and urbanization, among other reasons. It is expected that electric-power consumption will exceed 6 trillion kilowatt-hours in 2020, double the current consumption.
The current electric-power consumption per capita in China remains very low. In 2006, the consumption per capita in China was about 2,149 kilowatt-hours, which is about one-seventh of the consumption in the United States, one-quarter of Japan and one-third of South Korea; the average power consumption in daily life per capita is about 246 kilowatt-hours, which is about one-twentieth of the consumption in the United States and one-tenth of Japan.
CEC believes that the relative balance in electric power supply and demand is still of low level, brittle and temporary. Development remains the most important task for Chinas electric power industry.
